With fall just around the corner, I wanted to savor the last few days of summer by going fruit picking in Upstate New York. We decided to do a little spin on the traditional fall festivities of apple picking and go peach picking instead. I’m actually more of a peach person and was so happy that there were a few crops of peaches left at the end of the season! Fruit and flower picking is something I’ve wanted to do forever, but never got a chance to do so. I couldn’t be more excited to make the drive up to Dubois Farms over Labor Day weekend.
Once there, we were greeted by the friendly staff who directed us straight to the fruit orchards. I’ll be honest, it was quite overwhelming at first. Apples, peaches, plums, oh my! We started with the peaches and LOADED up our basket. I’m not exaggerating when I say this — those peaches are the juiciest and best peaches I’ve had in my life! I’m addicted.
From the peaches we made our way over to the plums. The farm didn’t have my favorite kind of plums, but it was cool to check out all the plum trees. I love the deep, rich purple color!
Luckily for us, honeycrisp apple season was just starting, so we were able to pick a few. By the time we got there however, most of the apples hanging on the lower branches were taken, so it was a bit of a struggle. #shortgirlproblems Pro tip: GO EARLY!
The farm also had a beautiful flower field where visitors could pick their own flowers. I’ve always wanted to frolic through a field of wildflowers à la Sound of Music, and this comes pretty darn close.
This striped top was perfect for my fruit picking outing. I love that it’s off the shoulder yet it comes with detachable straps, so you could wear it two different ways. The size XS is a little roomy for me, so I prefer to keep the straps on to keep the top in place. I’ve had this brown crossbody bag for nearly five years now and it’s perfect for mini day trips. While I don’t own many brown accessories, I love that this bag goes with almost everything in my fall wardrobe.
We went home with a full tummies, happy hearts, and a whole bunch of delicious fruit and fresh homemade apple cider donuts. I can’t imagine a better way to spend a weekend. Hudson Valley is just a short drive or train ride away from NYC and is full of fun fall festivities. I can’t wait to return when the foliage comes out and perhaps go on a weekend hike.
