Carmel by the Sea is easily one of the most charming places I’ve ever been to–it’s like a village straight out of a fairy tale!
We spent our morning hiking at Point Lobos State Nature Reserve. Although I was a bit bummed about the gloomy weather, I was glad that we were still able to go because a recent forest fire closed most of the parks in the area.
From Sea Lion Cove you can (barely) spot some sea lions basking in the “sun.” I was more taken away by the rock formations and colorful flora growing along them. So colorful!
For lunch we headed to the heart of the city, Ocean Avenue. Did you know that Ocean Avenue was the inspiration for many authors and artists? This city is just the cutest thing — there are no stop lights, and it’s the most dog friendly place I’ve ever been to. Seriously, there are signs on shop doors saying “All dogs welcomed and loved here” followed by a kindergartner’s adorable attempt at drawing a puppy (which ended up looking more like a cat). To top it off, there are flowers and twinkle lights everywhere! And the beaches and cottages sure are something else.
The forest fires threw a bit of a curveball in our plans for visiting Big Sur, so instead we spent the next day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Did you know that it was the inspiration for Finding Dory? 🙂
I loved seeing all the animals, especially the sea otters. They are just so cute, especially when they’re swimming around and being fed. The way they nibble at food!!! Ugh, too adorable. If anyone knows how I can adopt a sea otter, call me, ok? Thanks. 😉
Next up on our itinerary is the beautiful American Riviera, Santa Barbara! I’ve heard so many great things about Santa Barbara so I can’t wait. Not looking forward to the four hour drive but I’m SO excited for blue skies and beaches. See you on the sunny side!
