A Morning in Muir Woods

After a day in the city, we decided to spend our second day in the San Francisco area at Muir Woods National Monument.

Just 12 miles north of San Francisco, Muir Woods is home to beautiful redwood forests.

While Muir Woods is usually swamped with tourists and the parking lot is almost always full by 10:00 AM, luckily we went early Wednesday morning so we had a few hours in the woods all to ourselves.

Pro tip: if you arrive before 9:00 AM, entrance is free! (compared to $10 per person)

On our way back we made a stop at Muir Beach Overlook. This place is an absolute hidden gem. You’ve probably seen pictures of it before on Instagram or somewhere, but it is even more magical in real life. After walking down an iconic staircase, you’re standing on an overlook surrounded by the ocean and cliffs. I felt like I was in a movie!

There’s just something special about nature that leaves you feeling all refreshed and energized, and I love it. Muir Woods is an absolute must if you’re ever in San Francisco–you can’t underestimate the power of an escape to the woods!
